For My Friend — Pui Pik

I want to share a few memories of my dear friend, Pui Pik.

I remember her coming to my house and learning to knit from me. She was clumsy with the needles, but we laughed through it together. That quiet time, just the two of us, I will always treasure.

She adored my son like he was her own. She always bought him toys and stationery, just to see him smile. That kindness meant the world to me.

And she loved bringing people together. I remember the BBQ at her house with me, my son, and all our ICU colleagues. She moved between everyone, making sure we were all happy, all connected. That was Pui Pik—generous, warm, and full of life.

She was fun, outdoorsy, and so genuine. She loved fiercely and gave freely.

Today we say goodbye, but she will stay in our hearts forever.

Thank you, Pui Pik. We will miss you. Rest in peace.

Dear Anna,

You were my very first friend when I moved to Cologne. We were the same age, and we connected so quickly, speaking English together and making a new place feel like home.

I still remember your incredibly neat handwriting in your notebook and the delicious meal you cooked when you invited me to your home. Those are memories I will always treasure.

Life took us in different directions. I moved away, then eventually came back to Germany, but to a different state. As life became busier, we lost touch from time to time. Yet whenever we reconnected, it always felt the same—we laughed together just like we always had.

I missed you. Not long after my birthday this year, I realized I would never again receive one of your warm birthday messages. That thought broke my heart.

I hope you are now in a place filled with peace, warmth, and light. May you watch over all of us from above, just as you always brought warmth and kindness to those around you.

You will always be remembered, and you will always be missed.

Rest in peace, dear Anna. 🤍
