Dear Anna,

I still can’t believe you’re gone. Sometimes I forget, and it feels like you’re just away for a while.

Thank you for the ten years of friendship, for your kindness, love, and care. Thank you for all those long phone calls—two or three hours at a time—talking about everything: German courses, traveling, daily life in Germany, and sharing our emotions. Thank you for planting veggies and fruits and bringing me some to enjoy. And thank you for all the fun we had visiting Asian restaurants in Cologne.

You had many friends, but you were my best friend here in Germany. I’ll always remember our first meeting in Cologne, the visits to each other’s homes, and all the little moments that made our bond so special. It hurts so much to lose you, but now you’re free to travel wherever you want, without pain or burden.

You’ll always be in my heart, and I’ll miss you forever.
